Schatz would not stop talking about vomit at the dinner table last night. She was excused from the table and sent to her room for a time out (and to give the adults a much needed break). After some time had passed...
Schatz: Mom? Can I come out now?
Me: That depends. What are you going to talk about at the dinner table?
Schatz (as if she were asking a question): Unicorns and kittens?
Schatz is a sassy six year old. She is a handful. "Schatz" (Shot-zee) is a German endearment like honey or sweetie.
Early on I decided that I had two options with this child. I could get frustrated with her when she is sassy or bossy; or I could recognize the humor in the situation, grab a pen, and write it down. I chose the latter. Yes, this is real. No, this is not an exaggeration.
In the spirit of fair parenting, I've started peppering this blog with the funny things that my older daughter says and does. You can't make this stuff up!
